Rifle season comes to a close, but the deer camp stories are far from over.

Unusually warm weather in the month of November, made deer hunting a challenge for some. Others are bragging about the best season ever.

Big smiles and tall tales are flooding Facebook, “It was the biggest buck you will ever see” brags one hunter while sipping on his coffee. “Must have had 20 points, but I didn’t get a shot off!”

Ah, the tradition of telling stories at deer camp or the local coffee spot is a time honored tradition in many parts of the country. Some a little exaggerated, others have proof. Like this story about Gracie the Grouse…

A local hunter came in one day telling of a grouse that is doing battle for the best spot in the forest, his tree stand. Most of us brushed it off, but when he came in with proof, we were all blown away! Make sure to take a look at the video

At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter if the stories are true, but rather that families and friends came together to share a passion.

Park Rapids Fishing Report 11/13/16

                With Rifle season coming to an end and muzzleloading opener less than two weeks away (11/26) the water temps are 42-48 degrees across most lakes.
Most years it’s too cold or iced up to go out on soft water, this year being an exception. Fishing is still possible with next week’s weather hovering around 50 degrees.
Walleye/Northern/Bass– Search in 10-16 feet of water and in the taller weed beds if possible. Tie on either a Northland “UV Gami Jig” tipped with a rainbow or a Northland “Impulse” plastic twister tail.
Sunfish/Crappie– Swimming through the weed beds and timber, up shallow from 6-12 feet of water looking for a Northland “Fire Fly Jig” or “Gypsi Jig” either tipped with a crawler or crappie minnow.
