Fishing opener is already here and the town is busy with people returning to use their summer cabins. Our “We pay the tax & registration” sale on pre-owned Ice Castles has been very successful. Jake and the guys have been busy making sure that every trade-in Ice Castle is “up to snuff” and checking off the boxes on our extensive inspection sheets. All of our pre-owned Ice Castle inventory must pass an inspection before it is offered up for sale. Our inspections consist of replacing or fixing any non-functioning essential parts such as interior lighting, trailer lights, trailer brakes, frame integrity, wheels, axles, door latches, windows, cupboards, receptacles, furnace, oven, radio, A/C unit, electrical system and other items. We test each and every receptacle, furnace, CO alarm, smoke detector, key set and appliance to ensure our customers do not have issue with their pre-owned Ice Castle after leaving the lot.

“Stinky Cat” has been testing the boundaries of his employment at Smokey Hills. After being asked to apply a new metal roof to a previously damaged Ice Castle he was discovered by the general manager to be using the rolled up roof as a personal playground. Stinky Cat could not deny the video evidence proving his disobedience as seen below….

Park Rapids, Minnesota Area Fishing Report 5/14/16 – 5/21/16
The smell of mixed gas and outboard motor exhaust is once again in the air as we welcome another Minnesota fishing opener. The walleye get most of the attention this time of year but you should also look in the shallow, muddy areas of your local colder water lakes as the crappies are in full spawn. Catch them with a Flu Flu™ jig paired with a crappie minnow. They are very aggressive while spawning if you can stay out of their eyesight. The male walleyes are still hanging around the river inlets and outlets and are hungry from the spawning season. As water temperatures remain relatively low for this time of year, the large female ‘eyes can be found foraging in 12 to 20 feet of water. A red tail minnow and a white or yellow jig will turn them into your supper. Pike are after black bucktails in 6 to 12 feet of water, find them on the drop off near where the crappies are spawning. Bass are still catch and release only, and will be found where the warmest water is. If you are looking for lake specific information, give Josh a call at the store!
